Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant
SUMMARY
Job Title: Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant
Description: Assist Underwriters in placing new business and monthly renewal business.
Salary Range: $20,000 - $24,000
Department: Commercial Lines Underwriting
Reports To: Direct Underwriter
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
- Handle new business applications, renewals and endorsements.
- Work with underwriter to acquire all information needed to quote and bind coverage.
- Handle agent’s telephone calls/emails with questions/concerns about a variety of issues.
- Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 3years of related experience.
SKILLS & ABILITITIES REQUIRED
- Read, and interpret documents from underwriters, agents and carriers
- Write reports and business correspondence
- Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from agents and co-workers
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Work overtime as needed; and
- Organize large amounts of data, manage time efficiently
Commercial Trucking Underwriter
SUMMARY
Job Title: Commercial Trucking Underwriter
Description: Conduct all underwriting functions of new business within the guidelines of insurance carrier.
Salary Range: $50,000 - $68,000
Department: Commercial Lines Underwriting
Reports To: Vice President Commercial Lines
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
- Handle new business application, renewals and endorsements.
- Bind coverage.
- Coordinate with underwriting assistants to acquire all information needed to quote and bind coverage.
- Be service driven.
- Approve rates – debits and credits.
- Work with all levels and departments to provide superior service to agents and insureds.
- Review reports.
- Approve or decline risk.
- Direct the activity of underwriting assistant.
- Handle agent’s telephone calls/emails with questions/concerns about a variety of issues.
- Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must have at least a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management or equivalent business degree and three (3) years experience as a Commercial Truck Lines Underwriter.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CIC or CPCU preferred. Must have Insurance License.
SKILLS & ABILITITIES REQUIRED

- meet deadlines and work under pressure;
- work overtime as needed; and

Risk Engineering/ Loss Control Consultant
Salary Range – Competitive Compensation & Benefits Package
Residence Area Desired: Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania
This position is for a highly skilled Risk Engineering/Loss Control consultant specializing in Transportation Risks with solid strengths and a working knowledge of workers compensation risk assessment and mitigation. The responsibilities include consulting with transportation risks regarding safety management and loss control, and assisting our underwriting staff in risk selection, marketing and account management. This position reports to the National Risk Engineering Manager.
Major responsibilities are, conducting loss control surveys in assigned territory at client locations to determine potential hazards and risk factors to be considered in underwriting/ risk selection; consult with clients on ways to control hazards in order to reduce or prevent losses and influence clients to implement recommendations; build and maintain productive relationships with clients, underwriting and service teams, broker/agent community, claims department, and other staff.
Additional responsibilities are conducting research for underwriters or clients on class of business, operations, DOT, OSHA and EPA issues, or any other technical subject requiring similar analysis. Maintaining current knowledge of regulatory, environment, and emerging safety issues is critical.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and 5+ years of experience in insurance company loss control or transportation industry safety management. Background should include either company fleet management experience with a transportation firm or broker/insurance experience within a trucking insurance market. Certifications and advanced training is a plus. Ability to produce work on a personal computer, work remotely and independently while completing tasks in an efficient and timely manner is a must. Travel within the continental United States is required and can be extensive at times.
