Homeowners are the fuel oil dealer's largest customer base accounting for 90-95% of their business. In addition to selling fuel oil, dealers will sell, install, and service heating equipment and may sell other fuels, such as gasoline, diesel, kerosene and propane. Fuel oil dealers will sell gasoline and diesel fuel to companies that have fleets and kerosene will be sold to the general public as a heating fuel for space heaters. These dealers will also on occasion operate c-stores or card lock facilities on their site or other locations.
Fuel oil dealers will also perform other services. Removing oil from a tank will generally be handled by the dealer, as well as removing a tank from a customer's basement. Removing oil may be necessary for the dealer to perform repairs to the tank, which may involve welding. Removing an underground tank, however, will typically be contracted out. The dealer may also contract out tank removal from customer's basements. Most dealers will perform their own repairs, although a few may contract such duties out.
Ineligible Exposures:
The following primary, incidental or ancillary classes will not be included in this program:
- The intent is to include the operators in their capacity as wholesalers, retailers, service work and installation of systems, appliances sales or in combination. To qualify for coverage, a risk must have 50% of the total sales must be generated from one or a combination of these categories or in combination with one or more of the other eligible classes.
- Installation, service or repair of a customer's equipment must not exceed 50% of total sales.
- A licensed certified technician must perform all service work and no installation or removal of non-owned below ground storage tanks.
